School Council

Welcome to the School Council page.

School Council is made up of twelve children, Mrs Martin and Mrs Evans. We meet every Thursday to discuss important issues to help make improvements to our school.

Elections!
At the start of the autumn term, children that wanted to become a School Council representative prepared a manifesto to present to their class. There was then a day of voting.
We set up the spare classroom as a polling station and each child had a chance to vote on special ballot paper.
A child from each class ranging from Year 1 to Year 6 were elected and the meetings began!

Worry boxes
The first few meetings we talked about setting up ‘worry boxes’ in each classroom, so that children could post any concerns they had, which would then be discussed with the class teacher.

Anti Bullying
Our next issue on the agenda was to tie in with anti bullying week. We had lots of discussions about what bullying actually was. The councillors discussed with their classes what they should do if they were bullied and reported back to our meeting.
In the following meetings we came up with five steps of what to do if you are bullied. We then designed posters, which were discussed in assembly by members of the school council and distributed around school.

Playground Friends
The next issue on the agenda was to re organise the school ‘playground friend’ system. Mrs Tazzyman trains the children for this, so we invited her to one of our meetings. Between us we decided to have one playground friend per class from Year 2 upwards. Playground friends are there to be just that! A friend or smiley face to anyone on the playground, not to sort out disputes! They will be elected this term.

Competition!
Our last exciting idea was our Christmas tree decoration competition open to all children in the school.
We had lots of fun judging the entries and the winning three went on the Christmas trees in the hall.
Ewan and William (Yr6) represented the school council at our Christmas carol concert by making up prayers and read them out to close the service.
We look forward to the coming term. We will keep you posted!
