Foundation 2

Welcome to Foundation 2. Mrs Glass teaches F2 Jet and Mrs Allsopp and Mrs Dunning teach F2 Ruby. We are supported by the amazing Miss Amos, Mrs Armstrong and Mr Evans. As I'm sure you'll see we will have lots of fun and learn a great deal over the next year together!

The children need to have their PE kits in school every week. Please make sure that EVERYTHING is labelled!!!

Also please send your child to school with a labelled water bottle that we will send home every Friday. 

Mr McCardle covers PPA every week, with his fun music sessions. The children also have tennis sessions with Graham Woodhall for 3 half term sessions.

We watched our caterpillars grow and turn into cocoons. When they hatched we released them on the Foundation field

Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday celebrations

This term we will be learning all about minibeasts! We will be reading story books about them and Mrs Glass is looking forward to reading her childhood favourite (yes it's that old!!) The Very Hungry Caterpillar! We will be looking after Mrs Evan's African Land Snails and watching caterpillars grow, change into cocoons and finally hatch into beautiful butterflies.

We would like to challenge the children in Foundation 2 to read 8 or more books during the Easter holiday! Every child completing the challenge will receive a certificate and small prize! Keep an eye on your child's book bag for further information. 

New summer topics!

We are excited to announce that we have altered our curriculum for the Summer Term!

We will be completing two new topics.

Why are carrots orange?

The children will be learning about where our food comes from, growing food and cooking some of the vegetables we buy. The children will begin this topic with two local trips to Bank's Greengrocers on Main Street and Sainsburys.

Why do ladybirds have spots?

The children will begin this topic to a mini beast hunt around school, we will then be learning all about different mini beasts.

Spring Term 2016

We have a very busy term ahead! We will be learning all about transport, winter, Chinese New Year, Chicks and Easter! We will also be looking at the books by Allan and Janet Ahlberg and traditional tales. We will be working hard to blend, read and write sounds. In maths we will continue to do lots of work on number and shape.

Spring Walk. We had a walk to look at the changes that happen to our environment in spring.

The Easter Bunny came to visit! We had fun looking for the eggs!

Easter Bonnet Parade - The children were very proud of their creations. We loved singing our songs to all our parents and carers.

We had great fun during Sports Relief! We had a warm up with our specail minion guest followed by a mile run around the school and field! Phew!!

Shrove Tuesday. We held a pancake race. It was tricky to toss the pancakes!

We went for a walk on a cold and frosty morning! We looked at how our environment had changed now it is winter.

Autumn Term 2015

We have lots of exciting things planned for this term. Some of the things the children will be learning about are Autumn and harvest and we will be baking bread. We will also learn about bonfire and firework safety and have a special bonfire party with a real bonfire on the field! We will also be finding out about Diwali and of course Christmas!

F2 Jet decorated the school Christmas tree ready for the Christmas Fair. Thankyou Mr Dowling for our fabulous tree!

The Gingerbread Man. We made some Gingerbread men. One naughty Gingerbread man escaped and we needed to hunt for him around the school!

We dressed as superheroes, decorated biscuits and had a Pudsey party with our bears.

Remembrance Assembly

On Friday 6th November, Sunita came to see us. She told us all about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and learnt about how Hindu's celebrate this special time.

On Thursday 5th November we learnt all about bonfiire and firework safety. We had our own bonfire party. We had yummy hotdogs and delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows!

HARVEST FESTIVAL OCTOBER 2015. We collected items for the Newark Foodbank. Reverand Mark came to bless the food before it went to the Foodbank. Thankyou for all of the amazing donations.

We went on an autumn walk to look at all of the changes to our environment.

We have been learning all about harvest and making bread. We had great fun making bread with the Little Red Hen!

Thankyou to the adults that came to read with us! We loved all of the lovely stories!

 

 

The Mayor came to visit to help us plant bulbs to celebrate The Queen's reign.
