Academy Conversion Consultation

Academy Conversion - A Consultation with Stakeholders

As the Governing Body at John Hunt Primary we have been exploring the potential benefits of joining a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) could bring to our school for some time.

Historically, schools that have been underperforming have been forced to join a MAT with the aim of improving their results. This is now no longer the case and in fact many Ofsted rated ‘Good’ schools, such as John Hunt Primary, have elected to join a MAT for the opportunities it can bring to their staff and pupils.

After careful consideration we believe the time is right for John Hunt Primary to voluntarily join a MAT for the following reasons:

  • Sharing of best practice and ideas in education to drive better outcomes for all our children
  • The opportunity for staff development and continuous learning which would be highly motivating for our staff
  • Greater support for our school leadership team meaning they would spend less time on administration and more time teaching and focussing on the children.
  • Collaboration which improves classroom practice that ultimately benefits all of our pupils.

The Governing Body, including Mrs Mole, have been through an extensive process to help identify the right potential MAT for us to join, which included school visits and presentations from a variety of different MATs.  As part of this process it was extremely important to us to find a partner that shared our school’s ethos, values and that will allow us to keep our identity.

John Hunt Primary School has now begun the process of consulting about academy conversion. I hope that you will be able to contribute to the consultation process.

It is important to be clear that should the school convert to an academy, then the school will retain its own independence, identity and local governing body.

The proposal is that we will join Shine Multi Academy Trust, which already has the following primary schools in its trust - Whitemoor Academy, Ranskill Primary School, Scotholme Primary and Nursery School, Ironville and Codnor Park Primary School and Langold Dyscarr Community School.

This consultation will run until the 4th November – please have your say!  Paper copies of this paperwork is available from the school office.

Please send any comments/questions to office@johnhunt.notts.sch.uk

At this school, we are proud of our close links and good working relationships with our neighbouring schools and the links between primary and secondary schools. These will also be retained.

Thank you for your continued commitment and relationship with the school I hope you feel able to comment on our proposals for moving forward.
