Afternoon work

Monday 1st February

Complete the grammar challenges attached. There are three levels of challenge for you to choose from- don't just pick the one you think might be the easiest! Challenge yourself a bit more!

World's Most Deadly!

Start by watching these three videos about the world's most deadly minibeasts!

I have also attached some images below so you can see some more of the world's most deadly minibeasts! Your job for this afternoon is to create some Top Trump cards for these animals. You will probably need to do a little bit of extra research to help you gain the information for your Top Trump cards. Have a look at this template of one below to help give you some ideas for the categories for your cards! You can make these Top Trump cards however you like, using pen and paper or using PowerPoint for example! Enjoy!

Tuesday 2nd February

As you know, Mini Kixx are providing weekly online PE lessons for you to complete. This week, complete lesson 3!

...and here is your weekly music lesson from Mrs Thacker!

This week is also Children's Mental Health week. The theme this year is "Express Yourself." I have attached some activities below for you to have a look at, as well as two videos showing activities you might like to have a go at! Take a break every so often to look after yourself! heart

At 9am on Monday, the assembly will go live.

They are bringing the nation's children together (virtually!) with a positive message about the power of creative self-expression.

Wednesday 3rd February

When is a bug not a bug?

Starter- think of words to describe a bug, then come up with your own definition for what a bug is.

1. Have a look at the insect images attached below. Think about what you learnt last week about classifying minibeasts and consider how you could group them. Could they be grouped in different ways? What similarities and differences can you see between the creatures? Remember that insects are a huge family and that they are grouped together into smaller families (such as “bug”) based on smaller differences.

2. Read through the classification information and then revisit your groupings. Do any need changing?

3. Design your own insect. Look at the information attached below to help you design your own creepy crawly! Present your insect you like: on paper or digitally.

Thursday 4th February

Where have all the insects gone?

1. Why do you think insects are important? Create a list showing all the things that you think insects do for us.

Read through the information; what insects do for us. Compare this information against your own list and update it with some more ideas.

2. Read through information; what is harming insects? Look at the dangers and put them in order from what you think is the least to the most dangerous threat to insects. There are four main areas hinted at in the images-

use of chemical pesticides, habitat loss, climate change and pollution. Discuss how these things harm insects (loss of habitat, poisoning, direct death etc).

3. Watch the following video:

Create a piece of work showing what a world without insects would look like and choose to present it however you like e.g. a diary, a poem, a piece of art work.

Friday 5th February

Have a look at the attached examples of Darwin's highly detailed drawings of insects and creatures, made during his investigations.  Look at the visual elements evident in Darwin's work, including his use of line, colour, value texture and form to create realistic and detailed drawings. Choose your own deadly minibeast to draw, with close attention to detail, adding tone and texture using pencil, or colour using watercolour paint.

This Friday, there will be a virtual assembly for children all over the UK. It is taking place on Zoom so you may need to speak to your grown ups to see if you can take part and borrow their account! If you can, it is free and will take place at 2pm, but you will need to sort this before Friday so that you have the link in time.
