All the reading and writing activities this week are linked to the book

'Norman the Bug with the Silly Shell'.

Watch the story clip of 'Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell' and then discuss the following questions with an adult:

  • Why do you think Norman thought snails were great?
  • What did the snails think of Norman at the beginning of the story?
  • What was Norman’s idea?
  • Did everything Norman found work? What did?
  • How did the snails feel about Norman later on in the story?
  • Why did the bird choose Norman?
  • How did he break free?
  • What did Norman want to be at the end of the story? Why?

Create your own story map by drawing and adding notes like we do in class. Focus on your 'Take Care' presentation!

Norman chooses a sticky doughnut as his shell. If you were Norman what would you choose as a shell and why? Explain using full sentences and 'because'. Why not add a drawing of Norman and his new shell! Use the recording sheet below if you wish.

Thursday and Friday

Read the fact cards about slugs and snails and then create your own information sheet. You may design your own information sheet or use one of the templates below. Make sure your information sheet contains the following:

  • Heading
  • Information - full sentences
  • Pictures / drawings

Just for Fun

Why not create your own Norman. Look at the ideas below for inspiration.

Continue to read and learn to spell all of the Year 1 and 2 'Common Exception' words.
