Woohoo! We are back together!
I am so happy that we are all back together again, it's really put a smile on my face.
Even though we don't have that long left of this term, we are still going to have lots of fun! We are going to start our WW2 topic!
Keep an eye out to see all the fun that we get up to. I've put a folder of the WBD pictures which were super impressive. I've also added a folder called WW2 which is where you will find pictures of all the fun we get up to for WW2.
I can't wait for the rest of the year together.
Welcome to our class page, there are 21 otterly fantastic children in our class and we are taught by Miss Louden. We are in for an exciting and busy year so make sure you keep an eye out on our page for further updates.
Children have done brilliantly so far with coming in on time so please keep this up as it is very important so that we do not cross over bubbles!
Although grown ups can't come in to the building, please do still give us a wave and a smile so we can get to know who you are. If you do need to talk to us about anything, we are more than happy to give you a ring so please let us know.
Your child should bring a water bottle with them every day. These will be sent home each night so that they can be cleaned ready for the next day.
Autumn Term 2
Welcome back! We had a fantastic and busy first half term. I am very excited for this term ahead with my lovely Otters, we are focusing our learning on Shackleton's journey. We will also be making sure we have some Christmas fun! This term also sees the launch of the John Hunt Sports Competition which we will be updating you about soon, some of the Year 6's will also be Captains & Vice-Captains. Check back to see what get up to!
We launched this topic with a fun day with spending some time painting 'The Endurance', each of the children were given the a part of the image below and were asked to paint it. We are in the process of putting it all together so pop back soon for the final image!
The children were then asked to make a sugar cube igloo! What sticky fun that was! The children did a fantastic job, we set them this challenge.
All the children did a brilliant job and I will update this page with pictures of the igloos shortly.
We began our English work by looking at 'The Crew' from Shackleton's journey.
We looked at the advert that Ernest Shackleton put out himself for the expedition.
The children chose one role to research and create a job advert for. See below for some of the brilliant adverts the children did.
YOU ARE ...
This week we have launched a new 'You are', this is where I will be looking for children that are doing any of the above things, Otters have been brilliant so are and I think they need to be recognised for this even more than they already are. I will be doing this not just every week but if I feel your child has done something brilliant any day of the week then I will choose them on a random day!
27th November - This week, Alex got chosen, this was for his brilliant Take Care work and his attitude towards his work this week has been brilliant. He has been motivated, kind and devoted to his work. I am super impressed with Alex this week. Keep going!
Prodigy & SPAG.com
Your child will be coming home with a login for Prodigy and SPAG.com.
We won't be sending home a homework pack like the first half term, your child's homework this term is to go on Prodigy weekly, we will be setting up some little competitions for Prodigy. Prodigy is a brilliant way to practice Maths, when you first get logged in, then please complete the placement test as that will allow us to see how much progress you are making. Remember, you don't have to long times on Prodigy, it is best for short bursts.
This is brilliant site, it allows your children to practice their SPaG knowledge. I have already set up the first test on it, SPAG.com is able to be used on any devices so your child should be able to access it on their phone if you don't have any other devices. It doesn't have to be completed in one sitting.
The first test is live, your child will have until Monday 7th December to complete it. Please encourage your children t have it completed by then, we can also see who has it done it. It is a brilliant website as it allows us to pinpoint key areas that your child is struggling with.
Autumn Term 1
We have already kick started our exciting topic of Ancient Greece with some food tasting, there was some funny faces when they tried olives and feta! Don't think some of the children will be asking you to buy them anytime soon however they might ask you to buy some Greek yoghurt and honey as that was a hit with many!
PE - This will take place on a Monday and a Thursday, so please ensure PE kit is in school on a Monday.
FAB4 - Please continue to encourage your children to read 4 times a week.
Even though we aren't sending weekly homework home at the moment, please do practice times tables with your child along with the Year 5 & 6 spellings, the list is attached below.
Below you can also find our long term plan for this year. We may end up making some changes as we go but this will give you a rough outline of what is to come in year 6.
I am VERY excited for the year ahead with Otters, so make sure you keep popping back onto our page to see what we are getting up to.
