This week we will be continuing to build on our Geography knowledge looking specifically at The Great Barrier Reef found off the coast of Queensland, Australia. It is the largest reef in the world and is said to be larger than the entire country of Italy put together! Astronauts can see the Great Barrier Reef from space and it is estimated to be the size of about 70 million football fields! The learning will then become cross curricular as we would like you to design your own 3D coral reef using household items. How fun it will be!
Today we would like you to watch a video first. The video is from the National Geographic website and will introduce one of the seven wonders of the world to you known as The Great Barrier Reef. After watching the video the power point will give and explain information about the Great Barrier Reef. Record anything you think is useful information and record further questions you might have or things you would like to research further!
Today we would like you to look further into The Great Barrier Reef specifically the animals that live in the reef. In the power point you will find images and information on the animals but there are many more which you could research yourself using any tablets, computers or books at home. In addition to this, we would like to watch the link below as it shows the amazing view of The Great Barrier Reef through the eyes of a turtle! When you have finished watching the video the WWF web page has lots of additional videos and information if you would like to watch.
Today we would like you to design your own 3D Coral Reef scene. It will need to be a detailed drawing of what animals and corals you are going to include, make sure to add lots of colour! You will also need to write down a resources list of everything you will need to make it. You can use lots of house hold items such as:
A power point has been added below of images giving you ideas of what creatures you could include if you get stuck.
Thursday and Friday
Using your information you have learnt this week and your design from yesterday, over the next two days we would like you to bring your design to life! Be as creative as you like and add lots of different textures and colour. Here some pictures to help you with your model. We can't wait to see your projects!
