Week 8 Topic

22nd February-26th February

You can complete these activities in any order

Science

Make friends with a tree! Circle it with their arms, smell it, touch its bark and take a close look at its branches and leaves. Take rubbings of its bark, collect a few of its leaves and take a photograph of their tree to help with identification. Children could make a mini book all about their ‘own’ tree including their rubbings and leaf prints. Write independently about their tree.

Science

Learn that some trees are deciduous and some are evergreen. Look at pictures of both types of tree and read their names. Take a socially distanced walk around the local environment to look at people’s gardens and describe the trees they can see – deciduous or evergreen?

Note

Deciduous trees shed their leaves during autumn while evergreens keep their needle-like leaves all year round.

Art

Draw or paint a picture of a woodland creature. You could even make 3-D junk models of different creatures including foxes, badgers, birds, squirrels and owls.

Art

Look at Andy Goldworthy’s artwork using the internet. Using natural materials found outside, make your own artwork. You could use leaves, sticks, grass and anything else that can be found in the local environment.

Science

Bird watching- How many different types of bird can you spot at home in your garden or out on a walk. Use the bird spotting sheet to help you identify the birds that you see.
