Walt: Understand how rocks and soils are formed
Starter: Ask the children what rocks they remember from their prior lessons, extra points if they can remember which are man-made and which are natural!
Then move on to the power point which you will find below. Follow the slides and work through asking questions, addressing misconceptions as they arise. The children will need to compare rocks and comment on texture, type of rock from prior learning; then moving on to complete the rock cycle.

Platinum-next step challenge: Pretend an alien has come to visit planet Earth and they have no understanding of a rock. How would you describe it? How would you explain its texture and properties? Could you explain how the rock has being made?
