Year One

Autumn 1

This half term our topic was Dinosaurs. During science we have been learning about herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. We became dinosaur dentists and examined different teeth from dinosaurs. We needed to decide whether the dinosaur was a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore based on the shape of their teeth. Once we had learnt about what herbivores, carnivores and omnivores ate, we made dinosaur poo! We showed our friends and they had to work out what type of dinosaur the poo belonged to. To finish our topic we discussed different theories about how the dinosaurs became extinct. The children were so excited when they heard that the dinosaurs could have been wiped out by a volcano and they asked if we could make volcanoes. The following week we spent creating volcanoes out of clay and using food colouring, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to create a volcanic eruption. Have a look below at some of our photos.
